The care of our Lacaune sheep

14 de February de 2025

The well-being of our Lacaune sheep is essential to obtaining high-quality cheese. Taking care of sheep is not an easy task. It requires a lot of dedication, consistency, and knowledge. We take care of our sheep from a young age, ensuring they have peace, health, and well-being.

Alberto pays special attention to the health and welfare of our sheep. He does so with full expertise, as he is a veterinarian. He makes sure they eat well, rest properly, exercise, and that their natural processes are respected.
Let us share some of our tips for taking care of our sheep:

  • Did you know that it is very important for pregnant sheep to exercise?
Pregnant sheep need to stay active to avoid becoming overweight. It is essential for them to walk, move around, and remain in good shape.
To help with this, we have our little tricks. We place their food and water a bit farther from their resting area so that they must walk to eat. This ensures they move and maintain their physical condition.
  • Summer heat can impact the well-being of our flock. That is why, during this time of year, we adopt several measures to ensure their comfort and good health.
In our barns, we have installed water misting systems that help maintain a constant temperature, preventing heat stress that could affect our sheep’s health.
  • Shearing is a necessary process to prevent diseases in sheep. We could say it’s like getting a haircut, and we do it at least once a year.
Our sheeps go “to the hairdresser” before summer. Why at this time of the year? Because otherwise, their wool coat would make them too hot.

Because we know that only well-cared-for sheep can produce the best milk, we put all our effort into their well-being. That is our secret to making exceptional cheese.
